It was the late 1990s. Facebook and Twitter hadn't been invented yet. We didn't have a cell phone or an email account. We worked at a bookstore in the South Jersey suburbs, just outside of Philadelphia. There were still bookstores back then. We had heard of Amazon, of course, but no one shopped online in those days. That's where Population Five met.

Fast forward five or six years, and we started a group blog called Population Five as a way of sharing stories and links among ourselves. Pop5 eventually grew to encompass more than its original five members. Then we all joined Facebook, and Pop5 became a wasteland.

Fast forward even further, and we started thinking about creating a podcast. We tossed around several different ideas before we thought, why not bring back Population Five? By that time we had lost one member to the West Coast, but we still had a core group of four, and a bunch of special guests we could call on if we needed a fifth. That's where we are now.

Special guest Evan joins us for Podcasts 7 and 8!
